Tamiflu Precautions

There is no evidence for efficacy of TAMIFLU in any illness caused by agents other than influenza viruses Types A and B. Tamiflu must be taken after consulting your doctor.

Allergies - Consult your doctor if you have ever had any unusual or allergic reaction to Tamiflu. Also tell your health care professional if you are allergic to any other substances, such as foods, preservatives, or dyes.

Pregnancy - Tamiflu has not been studied in pregnant women. Though animal studies have shown that Tamiflu causes problems. Before taking this medicine, let your doctor know if you are pregnant or if you may become pregnant.

Breast-feeding - Tamiflu passes into the breast milk of nursing mothers and it is fairly safe to breast feed an infant provided that you first discuss with your doctor the risks and odds of breast feeding.

Children - Tamiflu has not been tested in children younger than 1 year of age.

Older adults - Tamiflu has been tested in older adults and has not been shown to cause different side effects or problems in older adults than it does in younger adults.

Other medical problems - The presence of other medical problems may affect the use of Tamiflu.

Efficacy of TAMIFLU in the treatment of subjects with chronic cardiac disease and/or respiratory disease has not been established. No difference in the incidence of complications was observed between the treatment and placebo groups in this population. No information is available regarding treatment of influenza in patients with any medical condition sufficiently severe or unstable to be considered at imminent risk of requiring hospitalization. Make sure to tell your doctor if you have any of these medical problems, especially:

* Kidney disease
* Heart disease
* Illnesses caused by viruses other than influenza Type A or B
* Liver disease
* Lung disease
* Serious medical problems that may need admission to a hospital
