Edema- Swelling on any part of the body due to a collection of fluid into the intercellular spaces of tissues.

Endoplasmic Reticulum- An extensive network of fine parallel membranes interspersed throughout the cytoplasm of the cell, used for the transport of substances inside of a cell.

Enterovirus- These are from the group of picornaviruses that infect the gastrointestinal tract and can spread to other areas, especially the nervous system.

Enzyme- A protein that acts as a catalyst. Every chemical reaction in living organisms is facilitated by an enzyme.

Epidemic- The widespread outbreak of a disease, or a large number of cases of a disease in a single community or relatively small area.

Epidemiology- The study of diseases or conditions that influence the incidence, distribution, and control of infectious diseases; the study of disease occurrence in human populations.

Episome- A class of genetic elements of bacteria that may exist either as autonomous entities, replicating in the host independent of the bacterial chromosome, or as segments of the bacterial chromosome, replicating with it.

Eukarya- The super kingdom (or domain) that includes all eukaryote organisms-plants, fungi and animals.

Exposure- Contact with a substance by swallowing, breathing, or touching the skin or eyes. Exposure may be short-term, of intermediate duration, or long-term.
